Stop words are extremely common words (the, a, and, is, in, on…) that carry little meaning on their own. Most text analysis tools filter them out by default so you see which meaningful words dominate. You can disable the filter to count all words including stop words.

Checking word frequency helps you spot keyword density — how often a target keyword appears relative to total words. SEO guidelines generally suggest a keyword density of 1–3%. You can also catch over-used filler words or find opportunities to add more variation.

The tool splits text on whitespace and strips leading/trailing punctuation. Hyphenated words and contractions (can't, don't) are treated as single tokens. Numbers and alphanumeric tokens (e.g. "h2o") are counted as words.
