Brazil's movable dates in 2027 hang off Easter Sunday, March 28: Good Friday is two days earlier (March 26), Carnival Tuesday 47 days earlier (February 9) and Corpus Christi 60 days later (May 27).

The national holidays for 2027 are fixed by law. The optional days are not: Brazil's Ministry of Management (MGI) usually publishes the 2027 ordinance in late December 2026. The ones listed here appear in every recent ordinance; bridge days and the Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve afternoons that the 2026 ordinance added only apply if the 2027 ordinance repeats them.

In 2027, May 1, November 20, and December 25 fall on a Saturday. Brazil does not move holidays to the next weekday, so those dates give no extra day off to people who work Monday to Friday.

Of the 15 dates in the 2027 table, 10 are national holidays set by federal law: Lei 662/1949 (January 1, April 21, May 1, September 7, November 2 and 15, December 25), Lei 6.802/1980 (October 12) and Lei 14.759/2023 (November 20), plus Good Friday. Only essential work is allowed on those days, and work without a compensatory day off is paid double (TST Súmula 146).

The other 5 are pontos facultativos of the federal civil service. They bind neither private employers nor states and cities: in 2027, whether you work on Carnival Monday and Tuesday (February 8 and 9) or Ash Wednesday morning (February 10, optional until 2 pm) depends on local law, your union agreement or your employer.

Public Servant Day (Lei 8.112/1990, art. 236) only applies to federal staff and falls on a Thursday in 2027. November 20, a national holiday since Lei 14.759/2023, falls on a Saturday.

A long weekend (feriadão) is three or more days off in a row: a weekend plus a holiday on Monday or Friday. A bridge (ponte) is a holiday on Tuesday or Thursday, which becomes four days off if you take the Monday or Friday. 2027 has three long weekends and three bridges from national holidays alone.

Counting the full-day optional days (Carnival and Corpus Christi), these also open up for people who get them off:

Business days = Monday to Friday minus national holidays that fall on a weekday. Pontos facultativos (Carnival, Ash Wednesday, Corpus Christi, Public Servant Day) and state or municipal holidays are not subtracted. In 2027, the months with the fewest business days are January, February, October, and November (20 each), and the one with the most is December (23).
