How to choose and use these tools

  1. Write a title and description that accurately describe the page, then preview the snippet. Search engines can rewrite either field.
  2. Generate structured data only for visible content. Validate it against the requirements of the relevant search feature.
  3. Check canonicals, language alternates and robots.txt before publishing. Use UTM parameters for campaign reporting, not as separate indexed landing pages.

Worked example

For a JSON formatter page, describe formatting and validation in the title. Point its canonical at the stable tool URL. A campaign link such as ?utm_source=newsletter should still canonicalize to that same URL.

Frequently asked questions

Will FAQ schema give my tool a rich result?

Do not expect a FAQ rich result for a utility site. FAQ markup should describe the questions and answers people can read on the page. It is not a promise of extra search features or better rankings.

Does robots.txt prevent a page from being indexed?

Not necessarily: a blocked URL may still be known from links. Use an appropriate noindex directive on a crawlable page when exclusion from results is the goal. A canonical is a consolidation signal, not an access restriction.
